Paddle Your Way Through Elizabeth City

Posted on 07/13/2025 by Visit Elizabeth City

Looking for a unique way to explore Elizabeth City’s scenic waterfront? We’ve got you covered. Visit Elizabeth City has partnered with Rent.Fun to offer self-service kayak rentals at College Park. Perfect for locals and visitors alike who want to get out on the water and enjoy the beauty of our Harbor of Hospitality.

Easy Kayak Rentals at College Park

Located at 600 Southern Avenue, College Park is just across the street (diagonally) from the Museum of the Albemarle. There, you’ll find our convenient Rent.Fun kayak kiosk, which makes getting on the water quick and easy.

To get started, simply:

  1. Download the Rent.Fun app
  2. Scan the QR code at the kayak kiosk
  3. Unlock your kayak, paddle, and personal flotation device (PFD)

Rates are $25 for two hours, and each rental includes a paddle and an adult-size life jacket. Planning to bring kids? Be sure to bring your own child-sized PFD, as the provided ones are for adults.

For avid paddlers, a $99 annual pass gets you unlimited rentals through the Rent.Fun app—a great deal if you plan to paddle regularly!

Choose Your Adventure: Three Paddle Routes

You’re free to chart your own course, but we’ve mapped out three suggested routes for every skill level:

1. Charles Creek Paddle – Easy (Under 0.5 miles round trip)

Ideal for beginners or anyone looking for a quick, relaxing paddle. Head out from College Park to the end of Charles Creek at Southern Avenue and back.

2. Downtown Paddle – Novice (0.7 miles round trip)

A little more adventurous, this paddle takes you through open water with a slightly choppier feel. It’s still beginner-friendly and offers great views of the downtown waterfront.

3. Red Bridge Paddle – Experienced (2 miles round trip)

For the more seasoned paddler, head along the scenic waterfront to the Red Bridge at Mid-Atlantic Christian University and back. It’s a longer route but well worth the effort.

A Few Safety Reminders

Whether you’re looking for a peaceful paddle, a little exercise, or a new way to explore Elizabeth City, kayaking is a fantastic option. So download the app, grab a paddle, and enjoy the ride!
