It’s that merry time of year again. Santa’s loading his sleigh with goodies and hearts are light with the joys of the season. Make it a hometown holiday this year with Elizabeth City’s calendar of seasonal offerings.
Spice up your weekend with First Friday ArtWalk in the downtown area and watch the Lighted Boat parade in the harbor. Elizabeth City’s harbor will come alive as boats, large and small, sport Christmas lights as they float along the waterfront. Everyone will receive glow sticks to help cheer on the parade participants. ArtWalk begins at 5:00 p.m., with the boat parade starting around 6:30 p.m.
This slightly irreverent but heartwarming play will take you on a trip through the holidays that is guaranteed to step on a few ‘mistle-toes.’ Show times are Dec. 1, 7:30 p.m.; Dec. 2, 2:00 p.m.; Dec. 3, 2:00 p.m.; Dec. 8, 7:30 p.m.; Dec. 9, 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. This show is at Arts of the Albemarle’s Maguire Theater and tickets can be purchased for $16 and $12 for Seniors/Military by calling 252-338-6455.
Celebrate the holiday season with a performance of Handel’s ‘Messiah’ by the Elizabeth City State University Concert Choir. This musical tradition will take place at the Mickey L. Burnham Fine Arts Center, Floyd L. Robinson Auditorium on Elizabeth City State University beginning at 8:00 p.m. The concert is free, but guests are encouraged to bring canned goods to benefit Food Bank of the Albemarle.
Be transported to another time and place with the narration of ‘The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree’ that depicts a little girl’s life in the early 1900s. See what travel would have been like in 1917 by viewing the Albemarle Express miniature train. Museum of the Albemarle’s family-friendly event begins at 10:00 a.m. and includes a showing of ‘The Polar Express’ movie, carriage and pony rides, and much more.
Floats, fun, and an appearance by Santa come together for a holiday parade, Elizabeth City-style! Starting at 5:30 p.m. through our downtown area.
Enjoy a fabulous cast of performers gathered together by Broadway’s Eric Michael Gillet to sing songs of the season in My Favorite Christmas. The performance will be held at the Museum of the Albemarle (501 S. Water Street) beginning at 2:00 p.m. Proceeds benefit Benjamin House of Elizabeth City. This adaptation of the classic holiday movie will be performed by College of the Albemarle’s performing arts group. Show times are Dec. 14 at 10:00 a.m.; Dec. 15 at 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.; Dec. 16 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $19.50 for adults; $18.50 Seniors/Military; $9.50 Students/Children.
