Grown-up fun meets non-stop exploring. Spend a day exploring the area’s breweries and downtown thrills, then follow it up with Main Street shopping and bites — it’s the perfect itinerary for a girls’ trip, couples getaway or solo adventure.
DAY 1
Have a hard time keeping your eyes open without a strong cup of coffee first thing in the morning? Just follow the scent of freshly roasted coffee beans and the sound of friends laughing with a homemade pastry in hand until you reach the ultimate local staple – Muddy Waters Coffeehouse. Grab an artisanal coffee crafted for you by baristas with a special talent for delivering the energy you need and flavors that will leave you dreaming about your next cup.
Prove your strength or sharpen your aim at Kin’Folk Axe Throwing in the heart of E-City. With special-theme nights like “Glow ‘n Throw” and a fully-stocked beer cooler to keep your thirst quenched, Kin’Folk is a popular watering hole for both travelers and locals. Choose your weapon and get ready to kick some axe!
Located in historic Pallin’s Alley, Ghost Harbor Brewing Company is walking distance from Kin’Folk, so you can rest your throwing arm and pick up a beer with the other. As Elizabeth City’s first microbrewery, Ghost Harbor’s taproom features 15 beers to build your perfect tasting flight, from a Coppola Coffee Stout to Blood Magick, a cherry mango brew!
Take a short break from our city’s delicious brews to sample some of North Carolina’s finest barbeque at Currituck BBQ Company. Get a pork BBQ sandwich for one or grab a platter to share with friends and family. The smoky flavors and welcoming atmosphere make you feel like you just stepped into a neighborhood barbeque where all are welcome and encouraged to get seconds.
With waterfront views and a serious selection of beers, ciders and wine, Seven Sounds Brewing Company is the perfect place to round out your day in E-City. While you’re sampling your way through the beers on tap, order up some Big Boss Burritos to be delivered to you at the brewery! Now that’s what we call full service.
DAY 2
After grabbing coffee and a pastry (or two) The SweetEasy, it’s time for a day of shopping and sightseeing. Downtown Elizabeth City’s shopping district features unique boutiques, vintage finds and local gift shops, so whether you’re shopping for souvenirs or one-of-a-kind pieces, you’re sure to find something special.
Don’t be fooled by its name, Harbor Pharmacy is the go-to spot for gifts you won’t find anywhere else, including handmade jewelry, charcuterie boards and more. Stop by Pine & Porch for home décor finds to remember your trip by. Jade Whale Co. is E-City’s hometown skate/surf shop, with nautical threads benefiting ocean conservation efforts.
Bring home a unique souvenir when you visit the Arts of Albemarle. More than a store, this center has a gallery filled to the brim with pieces from local artists and a theatre that offers a rotating schedule of performances from Third Thursday Jazz to musicals, film festivals and more. No matter what speaks to, you’re sure to find something that catches your eye and ignites your creative side at this artist’s mecca.
Enjoy dinner with a view at Cypress Creek Grill. Whether you’re craving fresh seafood, a juicy steak or even Tex-Mex flavors, this eatery’s menu is as diverse as the E-City community. Plus a full bar means you can pair your meal with a handcrafted cocktail to wrap up a day of sunshine and strolls.
Not ready for the fun to end? Keep the night going with a pint of craft beer at Coasters Downtown Draught House. This small town bar has a big city selection with beers from well-known favorites to unique draughts from around the world. After a non-stop couple days of journeying through Elizabeth City staples, it’s time to relax and seal your road trip with a night cap.
If you’re in town for one of Elizabeth City’s special events, consider yourself lucky! The riverfront city’s got no shortage of festivals, celebrations and more happening all year round, including First Friday Art Walks every month and Music on the Green at Mariners’ Wharf Park in the fall.
