Live Theater
There is just something special about live theater that draws you in and carries you away, making you feel as though you are a part of the story. We have two funny performances hitting the stage. In a dire situation, the Little Sisters of Hoboken resort to performing a variety show in "Nunsense" at College of the Albemarle Performing Arts Center. Up next, Encore Theater's "A Bad Year for Tomatoes" will keep you laughing, as the famous Myra Marlow goes on retreat... only to end up with nosy neighbors, a ruse and suspicions of murder!
Art
Downtown EC is the place to be during 1st Friday ArtWalk. The streets will be bustling on the first monthly Friday evening as gallery and shop owners host a featured artist or musician during the monthly ArtWalk celebration! Enjoy local artwork, watch artist demos, meet book authors and tap your foot to live music around downtown Elizabeth City. After ArtWalk stay for dinner, drinks, and music at one of our amazing downtown restaurants/pubs.
Music
Our talented local musicians are a favorite among visitors! Are you ready for a relaxing evening with live performances, in a variety of genres, along the waters edge? Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy the breeze during the Music on the Green series on Tuesday nights through September. Don't miss Jazz legend, Ellis Marsalis as he performs with the Jae Sinnet Trio. VIP tickets include house seats and a cocktail party with Mr. Marsalis.
There are many opportunities to hear music while visiting. If you're here on a Friday, try our local craft beer at Ghost Harbor Brewing Company during their Friday Music in the Brewery series. Have dinner or a drink and hear great bands during Hoppin' Johnz Saturday Night Live series. The Gospel Extravaganza Concert is one you don't wanna miss, so bring your shouting shoes for an evening with Ken Heath & The True Disciples. If you're really feeling that music and just can't stay in your seat, stomp your boots during the Dance Party Country Line Dancing at Arts of the Albemarle.
Short Films
If you're a film buff, you'll have two great options. First up is the International Sci-Fi Film Shorts Festival, the first global "travelling" science fiction and fantasy film festival. Last year the screenings of the festival were held in more than 13 countires of the world. This year, the best eight films will be shown.
Next up, the Final Ten selections have been announced for the Manhattan Short Film Festival 2019, a worldwide event taking place in over 400 venues across six continents between September 26 and October 6, 2019. By virtue of their selection by MANHATTAN SHORT, each short film is automatically Oscar-qualified.
