Enjoy artwork, artist demos and live music on occasion at various locations around downtown Elizabeth City.
The first Friday of each month, Elizabeth City’s downtown turns itself into a living art gallery from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for its monthly First Friday ArtWalk. On Friday, June 2, the art inspired festivities begin at 10:00 a.m. as visiting talented artists will be around the downtown performing their craft as well as local artists demonstrating their craft. Browse around the downtown area and find some of these visiting artists in addition to our local talent. Jane Filer is a passionate painter from Chapel Hill who pours love into everything she does and shines a light on everyone she meets. Visitors will have an opportunity to meet this dynamic and inspiring artist as she will be exhibiting her works and sharing her love for all things art. Catherin Martin has been painting for many years, doing her first oil at age 10. This Raleigh area based artist describes her art as “a very personal experience that comes from the soul and reflects both sorrow and joy in life.” Her work is very emotional and can be categorized as expressionist painting. Her paintings are spontaneous, vibrant with color, and accentuated with extreme value. Dawn Kinney Martin, a Plein air artist from Atlanta, says, “I love the challenge of working on location. I strive to create expressive paintings that elevate the ordinary and encourage the viewer to appreciate the beauty of the day to day.” Dawn loves the beautiful coastal landscapes subjects that the Elizabeth City area has to offer will be working in the Elizabeth City area on Friday.
