The Richardson-Pool-Glover House is Elizabeth City’s largest antebellum home, and the only home in the city to follow the fully-developed two-story double-pile center hall plan. The house was built in the 1850s for Daniel Richardson, a local merchant. At his death, it was sold to George Decatur Pool, a wealthy farmer and philanthropist. Pool’s heirs sold it to businessman William Charles Glover, who served as mayor of Elizabeth City from 1888 to 1895.

Built in 1856 the Richardson Pool Glover house is the third largest antebellum style home in North Carolina. It is nestled an hour from the Outer Banks of North Carolina and an hour from Hampton Roads, VA in the quaint and friendly southern town of Elizabeth City, NC.

The house’s immense southern charm is not the only significant piece to the house as it has played a large role in local town history and North Carolina history. It has been a site for a Civil War hospital & the Underground Railroad. It also has been home to the town mayor & a local doctor who discovered the portrait of Theodosia Burr (Aaron Burrs daughter who went missing in a shipwreck).

Built in 1856 The Richardson Pool Glover house is in walking distance to all that downtown Elizabeth City has to offer,  from restaurants to the local museum, and harbor views. Part of the  Church St. Residential historic district the house has a full porch with outdoor seating for rocking or al fresco dining. Guests can enjoy our parlor with our provided books and games to make the most out of your stay.  All of our rooms are large in size with queen to king sized beds and private attached bathrooms.   All rooms have full access to our complementary coffee and tea. Upon request Pack n Play and rollaway beds are available for additional guests little or small.  We provide a full list of suggestions on the best places to eat so our guests get the full local experience. We are located 10 minutes from USCG  Elizabeth City,  one hour south of Norfolk, and one hour west of the outer banks.
