Join the Museum of the Albemarle for a Zoom History for Lunch, "Veterans, Comrades, and Leaders: African American Civil War Veterans in Northeastern North Carolina." Enjoy a lecture from the comfort of your home on Wednesday November 18, 2020 at 12 p.m.
Dr. Hilary Green, Associate Professor of History, Department of Gender and Race Studies, University of Alabama will discuss Veterans, Comrades, and Leaders: African American Civil War Veterans in Northeastern North Carolina. Dr. Green offers an overview of the ways that African American veterans of the Civil War leveraged the Civil War service through parades, participation in the Grand Army of the Republic and other activities. These men contributed to the various ways in which African American understandings of the Civil War persisted into the twentieth century.
