Join the Museum of the Albemarle for a History for Lunch, "A Fortress and Its Weapons from the Times of Joshua and Jesus: The Archaeology of a Biblical Site." Enjoy a lecture from the comfort of your home or in-person at the museum on August 4, 2021 at 12 p.m.
Mark Hassler, PhD, associate professor of the Old Testament and director of the master of theology program at Virginia Beach Theological Seminary, will explore recent discoveries from Khirbet el-Maqatir, arguably site of Biblical cities Ai (Joshua 7-8) and Ephraim (John 11:47-54). The site had a military fortress that was destroyed during the Israelite conquest of Canaan, in the First Jewish Revolt (66-73 CE) against Rome. Military artifacts and architecture shed light on warfare practices in the ancient Near East.
The Museum will offer the History for Lunch in-person and through Zoom:
Be sure to visit the museum's exhibit featuring artifacts from Khirbet el-Maqatir.
